Murales is just one of many cities on the planet Mace. The majority of Mace's population actually exists within their computer networks, as most of the Maconites decided their corporeal bodies required too much maintenance and opted to convert their entities into SmartData (© Enviracorp). Bipedal bots are available for those who decide to roam about the countryside for awhile.
The remaining fifth percent of the populace who deigned to keep their original forms face the challenges of Mace's harsh society. Mobs and corporations control most anything necessary to maintain the expensive flesh lifestyle, such as medicine, edibles and property. The largest and most powerful of these factions gather at the epitome of their element- Murales.
While Murales may not be the best location to lay down one's family and picket fence, their exports are popular throughout the universe. Corporations pour money into technical and economic advancements, while the Mob factions combat with increased weapon production and circulation of various luxuries.
From the surface, Mace appears to be governed primarily by these two corrupt forces, but this is far from the truth. They are irrelevant pawns when it comes down to the wire, their combined incomes, expenses and mutual transactions making up less than 20% of Mace's net total. Business and communication to and from Mace is dealt with predominantly through electronic means, and is the same basis for their political and social stance with outside races.
Their digital world is order that the breathing population dare not fetter, else the benefits of Mace's financial and social status crumble beneath them.
Additionally, everything relating to the servers and network are watched over and maintained by lethal autobots (and the volunteers in bipedbots on their shift rotations), posted at necessary locations and surrounded by appropriate warnings.
Hence the digital and the corporeal continue to live their financially connected but essentially divided lives; God help anyone who braves the surface.
