"Oh, crap. Oh...ah, no! Wait!" Came a flustered voice -- male, young, a bit naive. The source was Krebs, a medium-sized, olive-green Rivet with institution-orange simpaws and a whole lot of hair. His shaggy form was currently involved in the frantic fortification of a towering pile of books and loose papers, which was slowly teetering from side to side. As the shaggy Rivet hurriedly wedged books into key points of the scholarly tower, it slowly listed more and more to the side. Finally, the strain was too much. A single sheet of paper drifted down from the top, landing with the small pat of paper on grass. Rooted with dread, Krebs turned a wide-eyed stare to the leaning tower above him. As if in slow motion, the top book began to slide, bring the next item -- a bulky binder -- along with it. With a cry of dismay, Krebs braced his four bionic paws and leapt to the side, slipping out from under the collape just in time. Papers fluttered everywhere as the stack came crashing down, covering the unmown grass like snow. Krebs sat sheepishly in the middle of the mess, wondering just what he was going to do about the chaos that was still slowly drifting to the ground around him.

Brelume had been out for a stroll, bored with sitting around. He had decided to see if he couldn't find any rivets and try his luck at spooking them. As he trotted on he jumped at the sight of a tower of books and papers crashing to the ground, not to mention a rivet staring in dismay at the mess. Brelume grinned. Time for the one I've been practicing. Brelume thought. Come on Loony, you can pull this one off.He rushed up to the rivet, his legs squeking with the fast movement, and called to him. "Hey buddy!" He shouted. "Looks like the school lady won't be too happy."

Krebs gave a little start of surprise, looking up quickly, a mop of fur falling into his eyes. He shook his head, tossing it back onto his forehead, and squinted at his visitor. It was another Rivet, short haired, with a bright blue coat. "Eh...no." The guilty look returned, replacing the glint of surprise. The disorganized, chronically messy Krebs stood in the middle of the toppled pile, looking as if he might bolt at any moment. "These are...all mine." He gave a little good-natured grin, as if making fun of himself. Well, if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

Brelume smiled as Krebs laughed, thinking evil thoughts.
"It doesn't matter who these belong to..." Brelume trailed off, hoping to spark some sort of interest. "That's the kind of thing you learn from being stranded in a forest for two months." He turned to the rivet like a sea captain telling a tale about a monsterous fish. "I'm Brelume, what's yours most bold one?"

"Oh...er, Krebs." He replied, the stuck-in-the-forest-for-two-months line completely blowing over his scatterbrained head. "But I don't think I'm particularly bold...I mean, mostly I just sit here all day..."

"That's not good!" Brelume said. "The teacher lady hates it when unwanted rivets sit in her forest for long periods of time." He turned to look at the mess. "And judging by this pile of stuff, she'll think you'll turn her forest into a pigsty, which she loathes."
Brelume looked at Krebes. "What were you doing anyway?"

Krebs looked confused for a bit. He wasn't really used to socializing, and the newcomer's odd statements were throwing him off his social balance. Luckily, the other finally formulated an intelligible question, and he set about answering it. "Well...I was trying to get this book down, see, The Guide To Advanced Geometric Planes and their Relation to the Intricate Workings of Space and Time...I had started reading it the other day, and I wanted to look something up. But it was near the top, and I climbed up, but it wasn't stable enough," He said, looking at the scattered materials around him, sheepishly. "I guess."
